The Innotech GenII Converter, RS232 to Isolated RS485 Converter, provides an interface between a PC’s RS232 serial port and an RS485 serial network. Switching the RS485 transceiver between the transmit and receive modes is accomplished via the “RTS” control signal line from the PC.

Applications

The RS232 to Isolated RS485 Converter provides an isolated interface between the RS232 serial port on a PC and the RS485 'Net Comms' or 'Global Points' networks of an Genesis controller installation.

Application Notes

More than one GENII Converter can be connected to the 'Net Comms' network but, care must be exercised to ensure that only one GENII Converter is in use (transmitting) at any time. If more than one GENII Converter is in use, the reply from any device on the network could be corrupted.

The GENII Converter can be used to 'listen' to the data on the 'Global Points' network when using the Gen2GPScan program.

Power Supply

Voltage: 9V AC or 9V DC @ 100ma from Double Insulated plugpack.

Inputs/Outputs

RS232 connection to a PC via a DB9 socket.
Isolated RS485 connection via a 3 way terminal block.

Terminal Identification

RS485 Terminals (from left to right)
- + = Positive of RS485 comms.
- - = Negative of RS485 comms.
- SCN = Screen of RS485 comms cable.
EarthingTerminals
- EARTH = Connection for electrical earth protection on RS485 comms cable.

Led Identification

Red = Power
Green = RX Receive
Red = TX Transmit
Yellow = Receive Enable Indicates that the RS485 is in receive mode.

Temperature Ratings

Storage 0 to 50°C non-condensing.
Operating 0 to 40°C non-condensing.

Enclosure
The GENII Converter is housed in a rectangular case made from flame resistant Astrene M650 IR plastic in accordance with IEC695-2-1 (HD444-2-1) as of EN6335- 1, A2 and IEC707 (AS/NZS2420).
